This route follows the Itinerary 1 and it is located in the district of Santa Pau, a medieval enclosure
declared historical-artistic monument in 1971, within the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of the Garrotxa.
It is one of the most famous routes of the Garrotxa, is a cyclical route where we some volcanos can be seen (Volcano of
Santa Margarida and Volcano of Croscat) and we can enjoy the magnificent Jorda's Beech.
These are three of the places more well known and attractive of the Natural Park.
In addition, it can be done different short alternative routes as well.
It is an ideal route to do it in family since it does not have too much difficulty, although suitable footwear is recomended.
We recommend begin the rout at the Can Serra Area (Jorda's Beech) although it is also possible to begin at the
Area of Santa Margarida. Both Areas are in the GI-524 road from Olot to Santa Pau.
In addition, throughout this route there are connections with the itinerary 3 (Olot- Can Xel), 4 (Can Xel-Saint Pau),
5 (Can Xel-Colltort) and 15 (Santa Margarida- Clay of Croscat).
The Itenerary 5 in addition connects with

groves,
called localy Fageda d'en Jordā (Jorda's Beech). Just before going into the fores, at hand right, we can visit the monolith erected in memory of the poet Joan Maragall.
The Jorda's Beech is a natural reserve, formed by a spectacular forest of highest beech with a great foliage and barely
separated between them. This makes difficult the entrance of the rays of the sun. This beech grows in a low land, with few altitude
only 550m. It is strange to see a continental forest at less height of its habitual environment, but it is possible thanks to the
great humidity and the effective drainage of the volcanic rock.
We could also appreciate the coexistence between the own mushrooms of the center and the north of Europe with typical fungi of
the Mediterranean area.
The vegetation nourishes itself by the rich substratum provided by the lava that was expelled by the Croscat Volcano.
These lava create abundant and characteristic little hummocks, called locally tossols, and sometimes they can reach more than
20m of height.
Depending on the time of the year, the
way is covered by leaves, although won't be difficult to follow it until a company dedicated
to the elaboration of farm yogurs with the milk of its own cows.
